I believe we make choices in life that are congruent with how we self-identify.  The problem is that we don't pause our busy lives long enough to reflect on what we are thinking and feeling.  Therefore, it's easy to become a victim of circumstances or the opinions of others. Do you ever look in the mirror and wonder who you really are?  There are a couple of life stages in which that is developmentally normal.  I tend to think that we find out more about ourselves during those somewhat turbulent times.  The core of who we are seems to push to the front in crises.  Our fears become more palatable and our strengths more evident.  How we see ourselves before God can be a little more scary and elusive, though.
